hi paul c if i can help ;
have you checked all the pipes for holes or perashin or splits (if any thay will suck in air causing a rased tickover ie more fuel )
can you take a pic of your carb wat type is it is it a butterfty or slide type if its a slide type ther will b a screw at a 90 or 45' angle on the side
runnong on ( check and replace the points and check timing )
is ther a vacume type valve opperating the choke ? c wat you cum up with wen you get time .
good luck mate ps airfilter ? |

Hi Steve
My mechanical knowledge is *very* limited, so be patient here if this is a dumb Q. But I have a raised tickover, so I'm interested. How can splits in hoses cause a richer mixture?

we \all gota lern sumtime mate
basicly if a hose ( vacume hose ) is split it can draw more air in to the carb causing the engine to rev as you are basiclly openen the throttle so the rased revs will draw more fuel .
any help ?  |

| Internal combustion engines run on air & petrol mixed in exactly the right quantities by the carburettor. If air is creeping into the carb from sources other than the carb air intake poor running is inevitable. With engine running spray Easystart around the carb area. If engine note rises there is definitly an air leak. Now all you have to do is find it! |

Steve
Thanks for your offer of advice mate but I've been working eight hours a day for the past few weeks building my dream, a 6m x 6m timber garage/workshop. I just have to have it completed before the cold/rainy weather gets here.
I can almost tolerate it at the moment; well I've been puting up with it for nearly a year. I guess the engine ticks over at about 1100rpm.
Starting with the choke is very erratic with the revs rising and falling at whatever choke setting I have it. It's OK after a few minutes and it's warmed up.
I know, I know, I know it needs a proper tune up but I've been both busy and lazy. |
