What is there to know? I contacted an ebay seller, rode 80 miles or so to see the van, had a test drive and put in a bid. I didn't buy that one but was finally successful when I caught the train up to Cheshire to pick the van up.
What do you need to know? The steering is nice and light and the gear change good and direct. The driver sits directly over the front wheels and the engine, and the vans are light at the back end. I find the van is excellent around town but incredibly noisy on motorways, and a bit gutless up hills. Embarrasingly so. Go very slowly over speed bumps as the back end bounces up with a great crash. They are pretty awful in windy conditions and when being overtaken by big trucks. Very skittish indeed.
All old SuperCarry/Rascal vans suffer from rusty bodywork along the bottom edges and especially over the front wheel arches. These can be patched up and cheap repair panels are available. |
